Wedding Gown Wednesday!

February 1

So, I am obsessed with this gown since I saw it this weekend at the Carolina Inn Bridal Show. I was stunned how this just floated down the runway!

In Vera’s words:

If there is any one dress in my Spring 2012 collection that epitomizes the pageantry of the Paris Opera, it’s Hayley. The centerpiece of this dress, for me, is the absolutely stunning, theatrical cascade of organza petals in the skirt, all cut from the most delicate tissue organza. They just float on the dress like a spilling bouquet. I did the petals in two tones: first, in a soft sand color, and then a nude, so it just gives you a complex tonality that’s a little more special.

For even more movement and excitement in the skirt, I’ve also used pleated honeycomb tulle—it gives you a whole other texture and volume underneath that petal effect. You almost picture Hayley swirling across the stage in a Degas painting.

The dropped-waist bodice features softly draped illusion organza over a corset. That transparency effect—that play between “reveal” and “conceal”—is one of my favorite techniques.

I’ve used all the textures in this dress, particularly in the petals, to give Hayley a rich, luxurious look, instead of going with traditional bling. For me, it’s about using fabric manipulations to make things look new and modern. And it’s also all about the motion in the whole gown, not the static detail. I love being able to achieve slouch and ease in a gown, and I always do this very purposefully, with layer upon layer of organic elements, as you see in Hayley. Getting that stunning combination of seemingly effortless beauty that’s so perfect and strategic: that’s what brings a dress together for me.

I like my bridal collections to be filled with unexpected touches—everything is very deliberately mixed up, assembled together, and then taken apart again, until I’ve found that perfect balance between architecture and effortlessness.

December 7

Trisha and Adam were married in a perfectly elegant, southern Carolina Inn Wedding! I loved planning with Trisha to bring together the seersucker fabric, her gorgeous Swiss Dot gown, and baby’s breath in a truly southern way!

Fleurtations Weddings and Events did a  phenomenal job using feminine pinks, blues, pink Gerbera Daisies (Trisha’s favorite) and the babies breath!

We incorporated the blue hydrangeas in the flowers because that was Adam’s favorite color and it worked with the seersucker accents perfectly!

My favorite moment, showing the bride the design and decor! Loved Trisha’s reaction to seeing the ballroom!!

Ashley Cakes did a fantastic job with the cake and the seersucker cakestand!

As favor’s the couple gave out Krispy Kreme’s!

Carolina Inn Wedding – Chapel Hill Wedding

September 16

Melanie and Bryan contacted me right before Christmas of 2010. They had a short time frame to plan their wedding since they were being relocated to Boston at the end of June. We got to work right away!

They were such a wonderful couple, who have such great classic taste.  The Carolina Inn was the perfect backdrop for their June wedding!

The super talented Martha Manning  was there to capture the excitement of the day!

Melanie was stunning! How fantastic are these shoes?

Our handsome groom!

Tre Bella Florals  did such an amazing  job! How handsome is this pink boutonniere?

Melanie’s Monique Lhuillier gown was from Alexia’s Bridal.

Melanie and I had such simliar style and tastes so designing the reception for me was a delight! I am so happy that Martha was able to capture Melanie’s first glimpse at the ballroom. This is the moment of the day I live for!!

This is a Happy Wedding Planner :)

The gorgeous linens were from CE Rental!

We created a lounge space for the guests and pink uplighting.

Greg from Joe Bunn DJ Company kept the dance floor packed!

Sushi? Yes, please! The Carolina Inn brought in a Sushi Chef to make it fresh for the guests.

Simply Cakes created the delicious cake!

Congratulations to Melanie and Bryan! I hope Boston is treating you well!!

Carolina Inn Wedding & Duke Chapel Wedding

April 22

Heather and Joe’s Duke Chapel wedding and Carolina Inn reception had the perfect vibrant spring color palette. This was such a fantastic couple to work with! They were so much fun to plan with!
We love to create custom inspiration boards for our couples when we began the planning and design process. Here’s a peek at Heather and Joe’s inspiration board:

Who doesn’t love seeing inspiration turn into an exquisite reality? Here are some of our favorite images from Heather & Joe’s wedding inspiration turned real wedding day.

Thanks to Kevin Milz for these amazing images.

Love the sash and brooch on Heather’s strapless lace gown. Heather’s dress was from one of our favorite wedding gown boutiques, Tre Bella Bridal in Durham.

Heather’s vintage inspired red shoes were the perfect little bit of colorful fun peeking out from under her dress.

Shorter length cocktail dresses are a great option for bridesmaids because they are sure to be worn again.

Ask your photographer to take plenty of detail pictures. It’s easy to overlook the detail elements of your big day when you get caught up in the excitement of your wedding and reception.

What an aisle to walk down! Duke Chapel is one of the most sought after Durham wedding venues.

The faithful bridesmaids lend a hand in bustling the bride’s gown.

The bride and groom decided to enter their black and yellow reception ballroom to the Steeler fight song “Black & Yellow” to pay homage to their favorite team.

The English Garden provided these dazzling floral arrangements. Next to the black linens, these yellow roses are very vibrant. And the height of these arrangements created an impressive effect without blocking guests’ view.

The stationary was incredible for the wedding! We mimicked the design on the cake and used the coupled monogram. This fantastic cake design is from Swank Cakes.

Guests also enjoyed pink sherbet at this southern class Carolina Inn reception.

As favors, the couple chose to give guests Bone Sucking BBQ sauce (a favorite of the groom’s) and deliciously sweet maple cookies from the bride’s home town.

Congratulations, Heather & Joe!!!
