Tia’s Wedding Tip Thursday!

February 2

While out and about, don’t forget to keep your eyes open for items to help make your wedding special. I have found some of the most memorable décor in the most unusual places. Holiday sales of any sort can be treasure troves for garlands, ornaments, candles, containers, and so on. Those crystal brooches that are 75% off after Valentine’s Day may be the perfect addition to  your bouquet.

Flea markets and garage sales can provide amazing metal work, frames, and inexpensive furniture. You could use those old iron lanterns to light up the path to your ceremony entrance. Antique jewelry – especially brooches – can be gorgeous on the wedding cake or as gifts to the bridesmaids. Consignment shops often carry a random assortment of very cost effective vases…when paired on a table, they are fantastic for centerpieces. (And could double as the guest favors!) You may not automatically think of your wedding when visiting somewhere like Southern States – but you can find bulk stones and glass rocks, twine, burlap, seed packets…all sorts of items that may fit with your wedding theme. Gather these items as you purchase them and then pass them on to your florist or designer (with a list of the items for safe return!).

The great thing about buying some of your own decoration touches is that you get them back as memoirs after the big day. I found beautiful sparkling ornaments after Christmas that were hung from branches in centerpieces at a spring wedding – and now the bride and groom decorate their Christmas tree with those ornaments each year. You can begin creating memories now for your wedding…just keep your eyes open!

Happy Planning!

Carolina Inn Wedding & Duke Chapel Wedding

April 22

Heather and Joe’s Duke Chapel wedding and Carolina Inn reception had the perfect vibrant spring color palette. This was such a fantastic couple to work with! They were so much fun to plan with!
We love to create custom inspiration boards for our couples when we began the planning and design process. Here’s a peek at Heather and Joe’s inspiration board:

Who doesn’t love seeing inspiration turn into an exquisite reality? Here are some of our favorite images from Heather & Joe’s wedding inspiration turned real wedding day.

Thanks to Kevin Milz for these amazing images.

Love the sash and brooch on Heather’s strapless lace gown. Heather’s dress was from one of our favorite wedding gown boutiques, Tre Bella Bridal in Durham.

Heather’s vintage inspired red shoes were the perfect little bit of colorful fun peeking out from under her dress.

Shorter length cocktail dresses are a great option for bridesmaids because they are sure to be worn again.

Ask your photographer to take plenty of detail pictures. It’s easy to overlook the detail elements of your big day when you get caught up in the excitement of your wedding and reception.

What an aisle to walk down! Duke Chapel is one of the most sought after Durham wedding venues.

The faithful bridesmaids lend a hand in bustling the bride’s gown.

The bride and groom decided to enter their black and yellow reception ballroom to the Steeler fight song “Black & Yellow” to pay homage to their favorite team.

The English Garden provided these dazzling floral arrangements. Next to the black linens, these yellow roses are very vibrant. And the height of these arrangements created an impressive effect without blocking guests’ view.

The stationary was incredible for the wedding! We mimicked the design on the cake and used the coupled monogram. This fantastic cake design is from Swank Cakes.

Guests also enjoyed pink sherbet at this southern class Carolina Inn reception.

As favors, the couple chose to give guests Bone Sucking BBQ sauce (a favorite of the groom’s) and deliciously sweet maple cookies from the bride’s home town.

Congratulations, Heather & Joe!!!

Garden Wedding in Chapel Hill

November 16

Emily and Mike’s big day in October was truly one of a kind. This Chapel Hill wedding took place in a gorgeous secluded garden behind the home of the bride’s father. Between the large cedars and pines and the babbling streams this venue felt like a setting out of a fairy tale.
Makeup Art by Jenny did the bride’s makeup.
The bride and groom took some time to connect and snap a few photos, thanks to Jeremy Lange, before the ceremony took place.
The couple had a sitar player perform background music while the guests were seated.
This statuesque tree was the perfect backdrop for the bride and groom to exchange vows.

Natural elements were even incorporated into the favors. The bride did these DIY centerpieces of potted impatiens which the guests took home as favors at the end of the evening.
Mercury Band from New York set the mood for the reception with their music. A cocktail hour in the garden followed the ceremony before guests moved under the tend provided by Party Reflections for dinner.
Catering Company of Chapel Hill served a delicious Asian inspired menu.
The cake was an angel cake made by one of the bride’s friends.
How creative is this origami cake topper?

This bohemian inspired photo booth was a surprise from the bride’s brother.
After dinner, the wedding party and guests moved back out into the garden for an evening of dancing.
Xoxo,
Erin
