DIY Friday! Heart Garland

February 10

Happy DIY Friday! One of my favorite things about Valentine’s Day is that you have free license to go a little cheesy:) I love going to the dollar store and finding fun things to decorate with on Valentine’s Day! I always have a ton of paint samples. So I used them to make fun heart garland! So simple and easy, you won’t mind making it for your Valentine!

All you need is:

- Some paint chips

-A needle and thread

-A heart cut out (we used our small heart punch out we used for our heart toppers)

It makes it more fun when the paint colors have names like “Hot to Trot” and “Fire and Ice!”

Now just start punching out hearts!

We like how these look like conversation hearts. You could add your own notes to them!

Next you thread them all together and you are ready to hang it!

We made a bonus DIY project in the frame. We are all about love notes and printed “I love you because” on some fun paper and framed it. Each day you can leave a note for your valentine on the glass with a dry erase marker! From doing the dishes to the things that make you love them the most! An easy way to count the ways you love each other!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

DIY Friday- Twine Globe!

February 3

Happy DIY Friday! We love the look of hanging globes and wanted to come up with some new options for them, so we made a globe out of regular kitchen twine. We are excited to try out new ways to hang it with lighting! You could make multiple sizes and fill with twinkling lights or use a light kit for night time events. We hung it without lighting since we were using it during the day. You can change the color of the twine or ribbon to fit your decor needs!

All you need is:

-A bouncy ball (any size you want!)

-Twine (we used kitchen, but you could use hemp for a brown globe)

-Plastic gloves and a drop cloth or newspaper

-Clear drying craft glue (we used Aleene’s)

Mark a small circle on the top of the ball and a larger one on the bottom.

Put down something to protect your work space and get some gloves on, it gets a little messy! Squeeze a dollop of glue on your glove and slide the twine through it. You could also squeeze directly onto the glove, you want a good coating of glue. Then you start wrapping the glue-covered twine around the ball, avoiding the marked circles. This takes a while- but is fun!

Keep going until you have it pretty covered! Feel free to add more glue when you are done if you think it needs more. If you are going to put lights in it you could use more twine. Let it dry overnight!

Pop the ball with scissors and carefully remove the ball from the large opening.

Now you are ready to hang it!

Happy DIY Friday!

DIY Friday! Heart Toppers

January 27

Happy DIY Friday! We are designing a photo shoot and making something similar. So we thought it would be fun to show you a simple idea for fun Valentine’s Day decor!

We love them for cupcakes, drink stirrers or straws, in a festive arrangement..so many ways! These are cute to put in drinks, desserts or flower arrangements! They super simple and quick to make!

All you need is:

- Some fun scrapbooking paper

-Sticks (we spray painted some bamboo skewers white)

-Glue

-A heart cut out (we used a small Martha Stewart one) or something to trace in the shape of a heart (we used a cookie cutter)

-Scissors

Start punching out some hearts!

Next we cut out some larger hearts that we traced with a heart shaped cookie cutter.

We had some larger white sticks, but wanted some smaller ones for the punched out hearts. So we broke out the spray paint and bamboo skewers!

Glue the stick on one side and then glue the other heart on top.

Press them together and let them dry. You are all done!

Happy Friday!

DIY Friday! Distressed Frames!

January 20

Happy DIY Friday! Distressed frames can add a rustic element to any wedding! They would be great for table numbers or displaying family pictures!

All you need is:

1. Wooden picture frame
2. Sand paper (we used 100 medium, with softer grit you can control the level of distressing better)
3. Paint brush
4. Candle
5. Regular paint in one color and white (you could easily add a second color in between the first color and white, just repeat the process of waxing and painting)

Paint the frame with your first color (pink for us). Make sure to sand your frame if it has a glossy finish so the paint will stick.

Allow paint to dry completely to the touch – about 25 minutes depending on the paint.

Liberally rub some candle wax on the frame. Do this especially where you would see heavy wear and tear over the years.  Don’t be shy with it!  Paint a second coat of your first color.

When the second coat of paint is dry, repeat the candle wax step. Then paint a coat of white and let dry.

Start scratching at the spots where you put the candle wax.. Fold the sand paper and make a sharp edge if you are using a sheet of sand paper.  Stop when you get to the pink (or your first color). You can distress as much or as little as you prefer!

We chose a subtle first color, but you could go bolder! Red and green could go under the white for a definite antique look!

How cute would these be with table numbers or your new house key? Happy Friday!

DIY Friday- Mercury Glass!

January 13

Happy DIY Friday! We  love Mercury glass and thought it would be fun to make our own!  These would make great centerpieces and you can apply this technique to any shape or size glassware! This turned out to be super quick and simple!

All you need is:

-Selected glass ware

-A spray bottle with half white vinegar and half warm water

- Sterling Silver Spray Enamel (we got ours at AC Moore)

-Gold Metallic Spray

Wipe out your container and get rid of any dust or debris. Spray down the inside of the vase with the vinegar water mixture and swirl around.

While it is still wet, spray the inside with a thin coat of the silver spray.

Immediately turn the vase upside down and let it dry, we used a few layers of paper to catch any excess.

We let it dry for a few hours and decided to add a thin layer of the gold metallic for depth of color, but since that was much thinner we left it right side up.

We repeated this on an identical vase and a larger one.  After allowing it to dry it was ready to use!

Happy Friday!
