DIY Friday! Crepe Paper Pomander

March 30

Happy DIY Friday! We love the idea of a sweet flower girl with a pomander! We loved the idea of using crepe paper streamers for roses. It is definitely a fun twist on fresh flowers! They could be used in place of globes and could be all sizes and colors!

All you need is:

- Glue gun and sticks

- crepe paper streamers (3-4 packs, get extra!)

- styrofoam ball form (we used 6 inch)

-ribbon

-push pins

Cut crepe paper into 24 inch strips. You are going to need a LOT!

Crumple the strips up. This is the fun part!

Now you are going to roll each strip into a rose. We rolled the first few inches into the center of the bud and put on some glue.

Begin to twist around and form the outside petals. We added some glue wherever it seemed loose.

This takes practice and doesn’t need to be perfect! Even the messier ones will look good. Play around with the different size buds and petals. Place a dollop of glue on the styrofoam ball and place the roses on glue.

Press firmly on the flowers. Secure loose flowers with push pins, if necessary.

When you are ready, pin on the ribbon.

Keep gluing the flowers until you are full! These are great for flower girls or for hanging decor!

DIY Friday! Tape flower arrangment

March 23

Happy DIY Friday! Spring is in the air and with that comes some beautiful flowers!  We love picking fresh flowers to arrange around our home! It’s easy to make them look great! There is just something about fresh flowers in your home to make your feel special! We made a simple arrangement using tape.

All you need is:

-A vase with smooth edges

-Flowers and water!

-scissors

-tape (we used white floral tape but you could use any color or scotch tape)

Start taping a grid in the size you want.

We used a 3X6 grid but it all depends on the size of your vase and flowers.

Fill the vase with water.

Next, start cutting your flowers to the desired length.

And start arranging!

Keep going until it looks the way you want it and you are ready to enjoy!

DIY Friday! Wooden and Metal Table Numbers

March 2

Happy DIY Friday! We love to mix different materials, like wood and metal. We saw something similar for home decor with initials and thought it would be fun to try as table numbers!

All you need is:

-Wood glue (make sure it dries clear)

-wooden dowel (a hand saw if yours is too long)

-wooden numbers

-metal spray paint

-wood stain

-2 wooden bases (we got ours at a local craft store and used two different shapes)

-brushes

-drill

First we cut the dowel to around 12 inches. You can make it any length you want, depending on the height you need.

Next we drilled a hole in the base, just make sure the drill bit is large enough for the dowel size.

Add some wood glue to the hole and put the dowel in and hold in place for a few seconds. Then wipe off the excess glue.

Spray paint the stand and the table number (we did both sides, but you just need to front and sides).

Use the wood stain and brush a thin coat of stain on the upper wooden piece. We wiped off the excess stain with a cloth to try and keep it even. If you want it darker you can do another coat once it dries.

We glued the upper wooden piece to the dowel and let it dry. Then we glued the number on the front and let that dry too! There is alot of drying in this project! You could also drill the top onto the dowel, but ours had an odd shaped bottom so we opted to glue.

Now you are ready to use it! We might try just a square piece of wood next time for a more rustic look. You could definitely try out different shapes and numbers!

DIY Friday! Heart Garland

February 10

Happy DIY Friday! One of my favorite things about Valentine’s Day is that you have free license to go a little cheesy:) I love going to the dollar store and finding fun things to decorate with on Valentine’s Day! I always have a ton of paint samples. So I used them to make fun heart garland! So simple and easy, you won’t mind making it for your Valentine!

All you need is:

- Some paint chips

-A needle and thread

-A heart cut out (we used our small heart punch out we used for our heart toppers)

It makes it more fun when the paint colors have names like “Hot to Trot” and “Fire and Ice!”

Now just start punching out hearts!

We like how these look like conversation hearts. You could add your own notes to them!

Next you thread them all together and you are ready to hang it!

We made a bonus DIY project in the frame. We are all about love notes and printed “I love you because” on some fun paper and framed it. Each day you can leave a note for your valentine on the glass with a dry erase marker! From doing the dishes to the things that make you love them the most! An easy way to count the ways you love each other!

Happy Valentine’s Day!
